SEAN PENN IS ONE OF AMERICA'S BEST ACTORS:

To celebrate the 4th of July, this week's "Time" magazine has taken it upon itself to name America's best in the entertainment field. Newly-single JULIA ROBERTS was named our best actress, while SEAN PENN took the male honors.

--ANG LEE, of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" fame, won best director honors. He's not American by birth, but has lived here for 20 years. The title of best rock band went to all-girl punks SLEATER-KINNEY, while THE ROOTS were named best rap artists.

--Also, CHRIS ROCK won best comedian, JON STEWART was voted best talk show host, CASSANDRA WILSON got best singer, and the ever-popular BELLO received the honor of BEST CLOWN. (???)
